And we thought our holiday dinners were stressful. In Silent Night, Nell (Keira Knightley) and Simon (Matthew Goode) are trying to host the perfect Christmas. But it’s also the last Christmas. Ever. Because everyone’s going to die in the morning.

“May we all rest in peace!” is perhaps not your average holiday toast.

Silent Night is the feature film debut of writer-director Camille Griffin, who is also the mother of young star Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo Rabbit), who plays Nell and Simon’s son Art.

Where the Drowned Girls Go

The summary explains, vaguely:

In true British fashion (while the rest of the world faces impending doom), a group of old friends reunite to celebrate Christmas in the comfort of an idyllic country home. Burdened with the inconvenience of mankind’s imminent destruction, they adopt a stiff upper lip, crack open another bottle of prosecco and continue with their festivities. But no amount of stoicism can replace the courage needed for their last night on earth.

The trailer is dryly funny—”Oh, what fun,” grandma Nicole (Trudie Styler!) blithely says, when Nell tells her that Simon and Tony robbed the petrol station—but you can tell it’s holding something back. Whether that’s more bleak humor or more existential dread is hard to say, but the cast is ready for either. Along with Knightley (Pirates of the Caribbean) and Goode (A Discovery of Witches), Silent Night also stars the brilliant Kirby Howell-Baptiste (The Good Place, the upcoming The Sandman); Annabelle Wallis (The Mummy, Peaky Blinders); Lucy Punch (A Series of Unfortunate Events); Sope Dirisu (His Dark Materials); and Lily-Rose Depp (Wolf).

Join the dinner party in theaters on December 3rd, or bring the party into your own home when Silent Night arrives on digital December 6th.
